The NCAA now allows student athletes to take advantage of NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) opportunities without affecting their eligibility to play sports, as long as that activity falls within certain guidelines.

“Everyone agrees that the NCAA can require student athletes to be enrolled students in good standing. But the NCAA’s business model of using unpaid student athletes to generate billions of dollars in revenue for the colleges raises serious questions under the antitrust laws.”

No institution of public higher education in Maryland may uphold any rule that prevents a student athlete from earning compensation from the use of their name, image and likeness (NIL). Effective July 1, 2023
